Lifesaving LVAD Program Launches with Mayo Clinic Support
Heart failure rates across the metro Atlanta region remain high, and for years, local patients in need of advanced surgical solutions had limited options. When Wellstar Health System launched its left ventricular assist device (LVAD) program, it filled a critical gap in cardiac care.
In partnership with the Mayo Clinic Care Network, Wellstar developed a program that’s already saved more than 150 lives. Prior to its launch, patients either faced limited treatment options or had to travel far from home. Today, Wellstar offers cutting-edge, minimally invasive LVAD implantation procedures that spare the sternum, reduce pain, speed up recovery, and make future transplants easier.
Mayo Clinic's collaboration helped Wellstar set a high standard from day one. Here’s a program that not only brings advanced heart care closer to home but also demonstrates the power of shared expertise.
