James Buntrock
Vice Chair of Enterprise Technical Services, Mayo Clinic

James Buntrock is a Mayo IT executive co-sponsor for the Mayo technology platform working with Google Cloud Platform and the Mayo/Google strategic partnership. Mr. Buntrock manages a large system portfolio with a group of 500+ IT professionals that provide 7x24x365 support of Mayo Clinic’s Enterprise Platforms and Patient Digital Products.

Mr. Buntrock’s research interests have focused on information utility and provided access to well-curated data for supporting a range of uses. This effort examines the full life cycle of data from initial data creation to data normalization, data standardization, and data enrichment using a variety of methods from deterministic rules, machine learning methods, and statistical methods to information extraction methods to enhance and derive additional value from data. Mr. Buntrock was instrumental in establishing Mayo Clinic’s Natural Language Processing Core and Bioinformatics IT service with numerous applications applied in research and clinical practice.

Mr. Buntrock is a regular IT advisor with Mayo Department of Business Development and Medical Ventures for new software and technology opportunities. He serves as the senior IT advisor the Center for Individualized Medicine supporting discovery, translation, and application of new models. He serves the IT Executive sponsor for Mayo Clinic IT Fellowship Program and is currently an Instructor in Biomedical Informatics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

Kyle Eisenzimmer
Sales Account Manager, Mayo Clinic Platform

Kyle Eisenzimmer is a dedicated professional with a strong focus on healthcare AI and algorithmic value propositions centered around the future of healthcare. He joined Mayo Clinic in January 2023 and has been instrumental in introducing cutting-edge healthcare advancements to companies looking to start or expand their business models or products, leveraging Mayo Clinic Platform services and solutions.

Before joining Mayo Clinic, Mr. Eisenzimmer served as the Director of Revenue Services for pre-hospital care providers. In this role, he led the revenue services team responsible for ensuring financial sustainability for Fire and EMS services throughout the country.

Mr. Eisenzimmer holds an associate degree in Paramedicine, and after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota, he earned his master's degree in business administration.

Maneesh Goyal
Chief Operating Officer, Mayo Clinic Platform

Maneesh Goyal drives Mayo Clinic Platform's growth and financial performance, responsible for developing and executing strategic plans, overall operational excellence and the assessment, and development of processes, systems and infrastructure. 

He identifies opportunities and provides direction on Mayo Clinic Platform’s investments in technology, artificial intelligence and data analytics. Goyal leads the creation and optimization of key strategic partnerships, builds and acquires businesses that advance the success and impact of Mayo Clinic Platform and oversees their performance. 

Goyal manages teams across product and solutions development, technology, sales and marketing, and regulatory functions. He works with the teams to ensure that all initiatives and efforts help achieve Mayo Clinic Platform’s vision

He earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a master’s in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.

Goyal brings a cross-disciplinary background in finance, investing, product development and engineering. He was most recently the Vice Chair of Corporate Development at Mayo Clinic. Prior to joining Mayo, he held key leadership positions at Welltok and Miramar Venture Partners, a leading early-stage investor focusing on the information technology space. Before entering the venture world, Goyal was an early employee with Broadcom Inc., a Fortune 500 Company, leading product development and engineering efforts in more than a dozen communications technology solutions.

John Halamka, M.D., M.S.
President, Mayo Clinic Platform

John D. Halamka, M.D., M.S., leads a portfolio of platform businesses focused on transforming health care by leveraging artificial intelligence, connected health care devices and a network of trusted partners.

Trained in emergency medicine and medical informatics, Dr. Halamka has been developing and implementing health care information strategy and policy for more than 25 years.

Prior to his appointment at Mayo Clinic, he was Chief Information Officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he served governments, academia and industry worldwide. He is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician.

As the International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Halamka helped the George W. Bush administration, the Obama administration and governments around the world plan their health care information strategies.

Dr. Halamka completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco, and pursued graduate work in bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his residency at Harbor—UCLA Medical Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Halamka has written a dozen books about technology-related issues, hundreds of articles and thousands of posts on the Geekdoctor blog. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2020. He and his wife also run Unity Farm Sanctuary in Sherborn, Massachusetts—the largest animal sanctuary in New England, which includes 300 animals, 30 acres of agricultural production and a cidery.

Eric Harnisch
Vice President Partner Programs, Mayo Clinic Platform

Eric Harnisch is passionate about accelerating innovation and growth through technology and global partnerships. He is responsible for developing and managing complex strategic partnerships and programs.

He works across business lines to translate strategy into actionable roadmaps and priorities with Mayo Clinic Platform's partnership network. Harnisch has a proven track record of building and maintaining successful relationships with customers, partners, teams, sales channels, and vendors.

Eric began his career at Mayo Clinic in 2016 in Corporate Development, where he led institution-wide strategic business partnerships for several foundational Digital Health programs in Mayo Clinic’s Practice, Research, and Education shields.

Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, Eric held leadership positions in Strategy, Corporate Development, General Management/Operations, and Sales and Marketing in large enterprises as well as startups. He has extensive experience using frameworks, tools, and processes to evaluate new opportunities to achieve enterprise innovation and growth objectives.

Eric holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from North Dakota State University. Eric has served on several boards and is active in his community.

Mark Larson, M.D.
Physician of Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic

Dr. Mark V. Larson serves as a medical director for the Mayo Clinic Care Network — a global network of independent hospitals with a common mission to improve the delivery of health care.

Dr. Larson joined the staff of Mayo Clinic as a consultant in gastroenterology in 1989. During his career, he has served in several leadership positions including the director of the Colorectal Neoplasia Clinic, and the medical director of both the gastroenterology and the internal medicine outreach practice. He also served as the director of gastrointestinal endoscopy from 2007 – 2015. While continuing to maintain a busy clinical and endoscopic practice, he began his current leadership position with the care network in 2015.

Dr. Larson attended the University of Iowa Medical School, followed by residency and fellowship in internal medicine and then gastroenterology and hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is currently an associate professor of internal medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. His areas of clinical expertise include gastrointestinal neoplasms and hereditary syndromes, along with complex, interventional gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.

Richard Larsen
Operations Administrator, Mayo Clinic Platform

Richard Larsen is on the Mayo Clinic Platform solutions team that develops new solutions, services and programs for the external provider market and for Mayo Clinic Platform. Curating new knowledge and technologies to change how and where care is provided helps health-care providers improve patient care at a lower cost. 

Larsen joined Mayo Clinic in 2013 as an operations manager in sports medicine. Prior to Mayo Clinic, he spent eight years as a staff and senior physician therapist in a variety of clinical settings, and subsequently opened a private sports medicine practice with multiple locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Larsen received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and earned his Master of Physician Therapy from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Larsen completed his M.B.A. at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls.

Sonya Makhni, M.D., M.S., M.B.A
Medical Director, Mayo Clinic Platform

Sonya Makhni focuses on data systems transformation, ML operations, bias mitigation of artificial intelligence systems in healthcare, health inequity, healthcare innovation, change management and novel models of care delivery. She is also a Senior Associate Consultant within the department of Hospital Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Makhni completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and her fellowship within Clinical Informatics at the University of Chicago, where she also earned a Masters of Science in Biomedical Informatics. Prior to this, she completed medical school at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, her MBA from Harvard Business School, and her undergraduate degree at MIT. Dr. Makhni is passionate about using her experiences to improve healthcare in safe, fair, and effective ways that will improve the lives of patients.

John Murphy
Public Affairs Senior Specialist, Mayo Clinic

John Murphy provides project management and communications strategy development and support for a variety of groups at Mayo Clinic including: patient/visitor communications, emergency management, volunteer services, facilities, and the Mayo Clinic Values Council. He serves as the liaison between Mayo Clinic and many community groups.

In prior roles, Murphy served as part of the media relations team for Mayo Clinic and has served as a spokesperson to the media. 

Prior to joining Mayo in 1999, Murphy was Senior Vice President and Director of Marketing and Communications for Bank One Illinois.  Bank One Corporation, based in Chicago, Illinois, was the sixth-largest bank in the United States, before merging with JPMorgan Chase & Company.

He graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a B.A. in Political Science and a M.A. in Education Administration.  He has completed post-graduate work in Communications at the University of Wisconsin, has taught on the university level, and has served as an elected official.

Sarah Poncelet
Chair of Mayo Clinic Strategy

Sarah leads the Enterprise Project Management Office and Strategy Consulting Services. Her team is focused on portfolio management, process engineering, systems design, business unit strategy development and operations planning.

She was recently the Executive Director of Strategy Development at Mayo Clinic. Her team developed the corporate strategy and priorities to advance the institutional plan. She works with senior level leadership to define strategy and across multidisciplinary teams to align operational plans to the broader strategy.

Sarah has worked across various departments at Mayo Clinic since she joined in 2007. She led product development and commercialization to diversify revenue streams across International, Quality, and Employer Services. She held progressive roles within Corporate Strategy and was previously the Director of Business Strategy & Planning.

She has experience in patient access management and analytics for Rochester Department of Medicine, Employee Community Health, and Mayo Clinic Health System. She worked in analytics and implementation for Marketing and Advertising within Marketing and Public Affairs, supporting Google AdWords analytics, market share and referring physicians as well as patient satisfaction.

Prior to Mayo Clinic, Sarah was a Financial Analyst for International Business Machines (IBM) in Rochester, MN. Sarah holds a M.B.A. from Augsburg College and a Bachelor of Science in Business, emphasis in Marketing from St. Cloud State University.

Tyson Stackhouse
Operations Administrator, Mayo Clinic Platform

Tyson Stackhouse, M.S., director of integration, Mayo Clinic, leads operational functions across the organization that support the Mayo Clinic Care Network. He is responsible for the comprehensive due diligence process for independent hospitals or systems becoming part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, and for leading the core review team. In addition, he has operational oversight for the care network’s relationship management teams, multi-state licensure effort, data analytics, and customer relationship management system.

Stackhouse joined Mayo Clinic in 2004. In his previous role as human resources director, he supported the Mayo Clinic Health System through his work in integration and programmatic improvements.

Stackhouse received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, and a Master of Science degree from Missouri State University.

Jamie is dedicated to working with entrepreneurs and has a passion for medical and life science innovation. He currently serves as a Partner Relationship Manager with Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate assisting AI Healthtech companies work with Mayo Clinic Platform. He has founded multiple companies and organizations, most recently the Collider Foundation that is dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs in the Rochester area. He was also part of the founding team that created the Center for Surgical Excellence at Mayo Clinic and the founder of BioAM, an organization to promote entrepreneurship in the life sciences.

David Vidal, J.D.
Vice Chair of SaMD, Mayo Clinic

David Vidal, J.D. joined Mayo Clinic in 2020. He is an attorney and the Vice Chair for Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) Regulation in Mayo Clinic’s Center for Digital Health - Data & Analytics leadership. His team is leading the development of enterprise-wide infrastructure to enable safe, effective, and ethical realization of FDA regulated artificial intelligence (AI) and software solutions. David specializes in navigating product regulatory strategy and design controls for AI and software-based product teams. David also advises on SaMD compliance, federal regulations, and standards for AI and software frameworks. David previously held the position of General Counsel and Senior VP of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs at IDx Technologies Inc., where he played an instrumental role in the FDA authorization and deployment of IDx-DR, the first autonomous AI diagnostic cleared by the FDA.

Zachary WareJoncas
Program Success Manager, Mayo Clinic Platform

Zach WareJoncas is the Program Success Manager for Mayo Clinic Platform_Accelerate. In former roles at Mayo Clinic Zach has worked in genetic research, higher education, community outreach and entrepreneurial programming. Zach is also a co-founder of LifEngine Animal Health Laboratories, a start-up company focusing on cellular therapy cures for cancer in the veterinary market. In his spare time Zach is an avid cyclist, camper, and reader.

Tripp Welch
Vice Chair - Quality, Mayo Clinic

Tripp Welch partners with the Medical Director to provide strategic direction and oversight to the Office of Mayo Clinic Experience and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Operations. He also serves as the institutional liaison between the Mayo Clinic Quality Subcommittee and Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion. He holds a variety of other internal responsibilities, serving on the Leadership Lecture Series Steering Committee, Dress and Decorum, Karis Committee, and Spirit of Caring Committee.

Prior to his current role, Tripp served in multiple roles over his 20-year career, including stints as a Clinical Operations Administrator (2014-2018), Research Administrator (2011-2014), Director in Human Resources (2003-2011), and Marketing Consultant (1998-2003). Tripp joined Mayo Clinic in 1996 as an Administrative Fellow.

Mr. Welch has a unique combination of educational and work history prior to joining Mayo Clinic. He holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and economics from James Madison University, a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Medical College of Virginia, and has worked in a variety of fields including cancer research, social retirement community administration, and health policy.

Regarding community activities, Mr. Welch has served on numerous boards and groups, including Rochester Airport Board, Child Care Resource and Referral, First Steps Evaluation Accountability Committee, The Rochester Art Center, Children’s Museum of Rochester, and the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority. He is heavily involved in Rochester Youth Soccer serving in multiple roles, in addition to playing on multiple indoor and outdoor soccer teams.

Jeff Wu
Vice President of Technology, Mayo Clinic Platform

Jeff Wu leads the Mayo Clinic Platform technology team responsible for delivering a federated, cloud-agnostic framework that enables the multiple participants of the platform to collaborate. Jeff is an accidental technologist. Originally intending on attending medical school, he took what he thought would be a short stint at Epic during the height of Meaningful Use and fell in love with how technology could improve a variety of inefficiencies in the administration of healthcare. After Epic, he completed his Masters of Public Health at the University of Wisconsin where his research focused on population health and cost-effectiveness analysis. He’s served as the industry subject matter expert for multiple publicly traded companies and advised multiple growth-stage start-ups through various funding raises.
